How to Attract More Views on YouTube

What do Dale Bozzoi and Barack Obama’s grandmother have in common?  They are both #1 search rankings on Google.

How did I come across this information? Not through advanced analytics.  It is not the fact that I am a search engine specialist and work for an internet marketing firm. This information came to me from the person I would least expect technological and internet based information to come from. I was pondering over the positive criticism and writing advice I received from my colleagues. I got writer’s block and was finding it difficult to find inspiration.   I turned to the only source that has always inspired me.  In hopes of sparking a streak of creative writing genius, I contacted my mother. Sounds funny coming from a 240 pound Ex-Marine, but mom’s chicken soup for the soul always does Eric’s mind and body good.  Of course it involves a little good old fashion gossip first.

She went on to tell me that Barack Obama’s grandmother recently passed at the age of 86. She then mentioned someone by the name of Dale Bozzio. The 1980’s lead singer from the rock group Missing Persons had been arrested on charges of animal cruelty. I thought to myself how and where did she find all of this information? So I asked her. I was shocked by her response. She told me that she received daily emails, news feeds, and video feeds from multiple social websites and a strong network of “YOUTUBERS”. This was coming from a woman who I thought her last known program she understood was Lotus.  My mom was officially a “social mediafile”.

I went to YouTube to search for Dale Bozzio’s arrest. A YouTube video titled “DESTINATION UNKNOWN” after Dale Bozzio’s 1980’s hit, received a whopping 1,617,164 views. I was viewer 1,617,163. The video felt like the longest 3 min of my life.   At the end I realized it wasn’t even her. But nonetheless that’s a million views. The one thing I will emphasize to internet marketers is, if you are going to change your video title tags to “soup it up”, make sure your video is relevant in your industry. Users don’t like being misled. T Ratings can hurt and give you bad credibility.   Currently on YouTube there isn’t a way to change the rating you’ve given a particular video, nor can a video’s uploader change the rating a video has received. Adding a relevant video will increase the amount of time a video is watched. It goes to show you that staying current with events and using tags such as The Obama Presidential Speech can help you reach views up to 21, 680 views in 4 hours. I suggest signing up for newsletters from CNN, MSN or you could always do what my spamming mom does, she forward’s almost every email she receives to someone she thinks’ will benefit from it. That’s my SEO Mom! … Always thinking about content relevance and the end-user experience.

So remember if you use YouTube properly you can get some great visibility. If abused, well you might wind up with a whole lot of nothing going on.
