If you thought that Cyber Mondays originated because online retailers offered drastic deals the Monday after Thanksgiving, think again. It didn’t start that way at all; rather it began with consumers—who liked to shop online from work. Normally, Mondays are good retail days for online businesses anyway, and typically, a Monday in December is usually when online retailers see their highest single day profit for the year, but it isn’t traditionally on “cyber Monday”.
Zappos is one the greatest E-commerce success stories around and at last year’s Pubcon in Vegas, I had the privilege to see their CEO, Tony Hseigh address the attendees as the keynote speaker. What Tony talked about most was the importance of their company culture and their attention to customer service. If you have ever ordered anything from Zappos, it is likely you are a satisfied customer.
There are many factors that go into a successful ecommerce site. Many would say that the design or appeal of the site is the most important, but without Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and quality internet marketing, a site cannot be found, nor can it convert sales. Once design and SEO is in place, how to sell the product becomes the primary focus. Selling an item on the internet means convincing the customer the product they are viewing is the right one.
