6 Facebook Tips to Make You a Social Networking Player

By now we all have Facebook. I realized this the other day when my aunt, my father’s older sister friend requested me. This was either a sign that it was time for me to leave Facebook all together, or that social networking sites have gotten so big that even the older generations are catching on, and quickly. I have realized that a simple Facebook page can be like an extension of who you are as a person. If you are a book, then a Facebook page is the front cover, the summary, and the illustrations. If you want people to read your book you better have some pretty good content in those areas. Here are some tips that I have found to be useful to optimize one’s Facebook. This can be useful for anyone who wants people to see them as a person with high value. Just like your websites, the key is content. Here are my tips to pimp out your Facebook profile. Stay tuned to an upcoming blog on how to optimize and get the most out of your Facebook Page

  1. About You:

    • Take some time in these places. Put down what sets you apart from everyone else, your unique goals, hobbies, likes, and dislikes. Try not to be cliché.
      • Everyone’s favorite shows are The Office and Family Guy, but what sets you apart from everyone else? What books have you read or do you want to read that might not fit the mold of what people see you as.
    • If you can display to people that you are more than just the average guy on Facebook who has more to offer then the monotony of most social media-lites, people will want to know you, they will want to be your friend, and they will want to have you in their personal network.
    • What interesting things do you aspire to do, to be, what are your goals, dreams and passionsDon’t go into too much detail because that makes you look like you are trying too hard to seem interesting. Just be brief, but make sure those brief explanations have a lot of meaning and impact
    • Add some funny quirky comments about yourself and inside jokes as well. Don’t seem like you take yourself too seriously, show a summary of how you are a well rounded individual who can adapt to different scenes:
      • Serious
      • Funny
      • Exciting
      • Intelligent
      • Hard Working
      • And so on…
  2. Who to be-friend

    • I add all of my friends, acquaintances, and people who I hope to become friends with. I do this because it is never bad having a large network. If you display yourself properly, then it can never hurt for as many people as possible to know that you are a person of high value, who does well for themselves, knows their priorities, and knows how to have a good time.
  3. Photos

    • Photos are really important. You want to have photos of yourself that display not only who you are and your interest, but also that you are a person of high social value who is well rounded in life. This includes photos of you in a professional setting, home setting, party environment, on vacation, with family, friends, and so forth. Be aware of friends who tag you of photos that do not shed the best light on you, make sure you add the capability of having to accept any tag photos of you, it might come back to haunt you.
    • In my opinion candid photos are some of the best. They capture a moment in time of you being your natural self, not posing trying to look sexy or sophisticated.
    • Be picky with the photos you want others to see, but don’t be afraid to show photos that you may not look the best in if they show that you are having a good time. The story that the photo tells is more important than how you look in it
  4. Statuses

    • Get creative, funny, inspiring, and topical
      • Take some time with these; don’t just say for example “Joelle is eating lunch.” No one cares what you are doing unless it is something that not everyone gets to do. For example, “Joelle is skydiving.”
    • You want to make statuses that people will choose to “like” or comment on. It adds to your overall interaction and Facebook value.
  5. Sharing Links and Photos
    • This is somewhat of a new capability, but one of my favorites.
      • You can share some of your favorite news articles, and let your friends know what current events interest you. They may thank you for sharing
      • You can share photos on your wall or other’s wall without uploading them into your gallery. This is a great way to joke around with your network or point out something.
    • The main objective here is to get people coming to your page. The more interesting content you post the more people will frequent your page, because you have become somewhat of a Facebook authority on interesting stuff. Interaction is the key, which brings me to my next point.
  6. Interactions

    • Write on your friend’s walls and pose your comments in a way so that they write on yours back. If you do this strategically, you can simulate a strong community of people who interact with you, which to the outsiders appears as if you are in command of a strong social network.
      • This will illicit high values of you as a credible social player

With these tips you should definitely be able to up your Facebook game. Facebook can make or break your entire persona, don’t let people get the wrong impression.  If you guys have any other tips and tricks on how to have great Facebook game, feel free to leave your comments below.

Hey Joelle! Thanks 4 the tips. I’m brand new 2 facebook, so I’m learning as I go. My friend Meg Brigowatz has been a tremendous help with getting me started and getting my profile pic uploaded from her PC, as well as tagging great photos 2 my page. I only have mobile Facebook on my Blackberry for now. She said I’d be hooked, and she was right! Thanks again!
