WordPress Plug-in for SEO Copywriters
- Social media expert Jay Baer, of ConvinceandConvert.com
As SEO copywriters, your primary goal should be to create content that matters to both the search engines and humans. But how do SEO copywriters keep up to date with volatile Google algorithms and the latest social media trends? Eightfold Logic has answered our concerns with the invention of the InboundWriter WordPress plug-in. InboundWriter (minus the WordPress plug-in) first debuted on May 23rd, 2011 and is one of a kind in the sense that it simplifies the task of creating well optimized content for maximum reach, engagement and conversions. Listed below are pros and cons of Eightfold Logic’s latest tool.
PROs
Free Tool: According to their official website’s FAQs, you can create up to 8 documents per month for free. If 8 documents do not meet your requirements, you can upgrade for a monthly fee of $19.95.
WordPress Plug-in: The one thing that InboundWriter lacked when it first debuted was that it was not a content management system (CMS) and it did not allow users to publish content directly. Writers would have to cut and paste their work into publishing platforms such as WordPress. Cut and paste jobs are now a thing of the past with the announcement of this WordPress Plug-in. The WordPress Plug-in has been dubbed a ‘great marriage’ by social media expert Jay Baer and features it in the top right hand corner of WordPress.
Target Audience: InboundWriter allows you to select your target audience according to their education level. The tool also helps you answer questions such as what are your target audience’s interests? What keywords and phrases do they use?
SEO and People Friendly: All you have to do is provide InboundWriter with three specific focus terms that relate to your topic at hand. After that, you can leave it up to them to search high and low across major search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo and social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter for relevant keywords and phrases. By now you’re probably wondering how they do it, and this is how:
“You may wonder what InboundWriter is doing behind the scenes while researching a topic. While the simple looking progress bar ticks away, the process being followed is by no means simple. InboundWriter scours the web and uses natural language processing (NLP) technology to extract key concepts from web sites and social networks. We then extract terms we understand to be relevant to the topic using a combination of NLP and proprietary term extraction algorithms. At the end of this process we look for associated metrics for the terms like search popularity, competitiveness, etc. The end result is thousands of pieces of reference material analyzed to provide the most compelling and relevant recommendations possible.”

Last Thursday, they also announced the launch of Topic Buzz designed to help content producers research their writing topics via Twitter.
Real-Time Functionality: When you’re dealing with SEO, the more up to date and relevant your keywords and phrases are, the better. InboundWriter provides current popular keywords and phrases being used by your target audience at any given point in time across major search engines and social networks. This tool is particularly useful as it allows you to play around with different keywords and phrases and lets you see in real-time how your document score fluctuates based on which keywords, phrases and structure you choose to implement.
Time Saver:Why waste your precious time creating content that isn’t relevant and will never be seen by the online community? InboundWriter saves you valuable time by helping you to craft content that connects with your audience, enhances your web presence and most importantly, converts for you. They do all the research for you based on the three focus terms related to your topic that you provide them at the start of each post. Alternatively, you can start writing your post and once you hit 200 words, InboundWriter will automatically identify and research the topic for you.
Personal Digital Writing Coach: The live coaching makes content creation as easy as 1-2-3. Don’t rely on InboundWriter to turn you into a top notch writer. Instead rely on the document score gauge to advise you how best to structure your online content to be SEO friendly. The document score also advises you which keywords and phrases to use in order to well optimize your content and boost your rankings. Examples of live training steps are listed below and appear directly under your document score.
1. Improve your score by refining the focus of your document
2. Move one of your Focus Terms to the beginning of your document title
3. Shorten your title
4. Use a more highly ranked Focus Term in your title.
As you follow their recommendations, you will see the gauge fluctuate in real time to reflect your progress.
Complete Control:
Remember that InboundWriter asks you to list three specific focus terms related to your topic at the start of the process or you can write up to 200 words and let InboundWriter ID and research your focus terms based on the content you’ve already provided. You’re also able to control your content strategy. Listed below are strategies offered:
Document Strategy
1. Optimize for search popularity (default) – Maximize use of terms which are highly popular on search engines. Competition avoidance.
2. Minimize search competition – Optimize for terms which are less competitive on search engines. Popularity avoidance.
3. Balanced strategy – Blend all factors to give a balanced set of recommendations
Advertising Strategy
1. Not important at all (default) – I don’t monetize via Google AdSense
2. Somewhat important – Google AdSense is one of multiple monetization strategies
3. Very important – Google AdSense revenue is the main factor
Reader Targeting Strategy
1. All education levels (default)
2. Elementary school
3. Middle school
4. High school
5. College
6. Post Graduate
CONs
Limited Free Tool: As mentioned, the free benefit is only good for the first 8 documents per month. In addition, free users of the WordPress plug-in are forced to be subjected to an InboundWriter small logo at the bottom of each of their posts. To have it removed from postings, users must upgrade to the paid version.
Limited Target Audience: For the moment InboundWriter assumes an English speaking audience in North America and only considers education levels. They hope to allow for additional geographic and demographic targeting in the future.
Limited SEO: No technical SEO recommendations are provided. SEO best practices are employed but many non-content related SEO factors are not. Therefore, link building strategies, overall domain authority and technical SEO factors need to also be factored into your online content strategy to boost traffic to your website.
Hinders Creative Process: By focusing your attention on the document score gauge, you run the risk of interrupting your natural writing flow. In a sense, it puts SEO copywriters back on the path of prioritizing keywords rather than focusing on the quality and uniqueness of their posts. This can lead to harmful keyword stuffing practices as well as slow down the content creation process.
No Real Proof of Results: Self explanatory really. Like all successful online content strategies, you need to leverage from Google Analytics and social trending systems to see if InboundWriter’s research processes and coaching are working wonders for your online content or not.
… As you can see, the pros appear to outweigh the cons. Why not see for yourself how it works by downloading the WordPress Plug-in today.
