This blog was actually inspired by a search query I entered. For anyone who needs to find information on the internet and also wants a visual tutorial or wants to see images, it becomes frustrating when you can read the content but feel that it should include helpful media to go along with it. When a reader cannot find the visual element, they tend to turn away and try to find it somewhere else. It depends on what kind of information you are writing about but if it is something instructional you might want to include a visual aid.
In this case I was doing what I assume is a very popular search on the web right now, “how to vampire makeup”. I became very discouraged when I would click on a relevant result. I would see it was a valid piece of content on a well known content site, but there was no picture within the content. I wanted some kind of guide or tutorial to show me what the progression would be with each step or at least a finished a product. If it had this feature, it would truly be a very useful piece of content that maybe I would bookmark, share with friends and keep going back to.
As I clicked back and forth from the results page to a new source, it also got me thinking; these pages must have a very high bounce rate. If the post author would have just taken the time to include some images, I would have spent a longer time on the page and if it was a syndicated article that included a link back to the original site I would have clicked on it which would generate traffic back to their site.
When creating good content you must keep in mind the topic you are writing about and what you want the reader to get out of it. There is nothing more disappointing about finding a source of information that turns out to be an informational dud. Think about what the reader is searching for that would enable them to find your site. Next, think about what your content should include to really engage the reader and convince the reader you are a credible and helpful source for the kind of information you are sharing.
Content is a large part of successful SEO (search engine optimization). If you have decided to take on the daunting task of writing, uploading, and syndicating your own content, it would be a shame to see your efforts go to waste by forgetting to include a picture or supporting video media. Better content implementation always generates more traffic, a better bounce rate (more time spent on site), and more conversions.
