Social Media’s Day of Remembrance

Social Media's Day of RemembranceSeptember 11th is an unforgettable date that causes most Americans to stop and remember the sad events that happened on that day. For hours on end the world was focused on the media trying to get an understanding of what exactly was happening. The attacks that day stole the lives of nearly 3,000 people in the Pentagon building in Washington, DC, the crash of United Airlines flight 93 in rural Pennsylvania and the World Trade Center in New York City.

140 Characters for Promoting on Twitter

140 Characters for Promoting on TwitterEven within the small confines of Twitter (small in regards to characters per Tweet), content is King! You have 140 characters to promote your product or service to your target audience. Seems ridiculously difficult, but there are many people out there that have become professionals and get paid to do just this.

Twitter has become one of the world’s most popular social media sites. From politics to entertainment, product selling to daily chores, everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is being tweeted about. Although many people were trying to avoid jumping on this social media bandwagon, it is clear by the mass volume of people on the social network, that Twitter has become another revolutionary communication tool.

Using Social Media to Screen Employees

Using Social Media to Screen EmployeesThere are millions of people in the U.S. that are currently searching for a job. You might be one of them and have probably been between jobs longer than you’ve ever experienced.  By now your resume has probably made the rounds on CareeBuilder.com, Monster.com, and Craigslist.com. You have probably gone to many interviews and felt you have done all the right things to seal the deal, but no one has called you back for a final interview. You might say to yourself, “could it be there is more qualified competition out there?” Well, maybe it’s your Facebook profile. About one out of three employers, according to recent data, use social media to screen potential employees. The first thing that comes to mind is whether or not employers should be able to screen us through our profiles on social sites? The second is, are the social profiles we post a good representation of us?

IPhone 3GS – Why I Love it!

IPhone 3GS – Why I Love it!After years of frustration with cell phones and PDAs, I can finally say that I have THE ONE.  Not that IPhone is a well kept secret or that this is such a great revelation.  However, I want to share my insights with our readers.

My latest frustration was with Blackberry Storm.  Main issue was the poor syncing; about every 3rd or 4th sync, I basically had to start all over by deleting files, rebooting, blah, blah, blah.  And it was most frustrating because I would want to sync just before leaving my office for a meeting and I like to have all of my contacts, calendars, et al up to date.

WordPress Design

WordPress DesignWordPress is a great CMS (Content Management System) that allows the user to blog about their everyday life, business, and /or personal interests. Like many bloggers out there on the web, this is a form of expression and what better way to express one’s self on a blog then with an appealing theme. I personally like a nice clean and sleek theme that exudes elegance such as the fusion theme that can be found at http://dev.digitalnature.ro/fusion/wordpress/. This theme has many good qualities such as good use of white space, interactivity and a good color scheme.

Security Implications of Social Media

Security Implications of Social Media

We usually focus on the positives that social media can bring about, but right now we are going to hop to the other side of the fence for a bit and discuss some of the dangers that can arise via social media. Not too long ago, I was called out at work for something that was posted on my Facebook. It wasn’t anything offensive, just one of my friends happened to go on my profile while I was logged in, and put an unsettling status about me, which made my friends think that I put it about myself. Sure, it was all fun and games to my social circle, but when things like this get brought up at your place of business, it makes one think about the effects that social media can have on one’s life, safety, security, perceived character, and well being.

Yahoo and Bing Teaming up Against Google

Yahoo and Bing Teaming up Against Google

In a move to take some of the momentum away from Google, Microsoft has re-entered their negations with Yahoo. It could potentially “give Microsoft roughly 30 percent share of the online search market.” (AdAge, http://adage.com/digital/article?article_id=138138).  For those of us in the search industry, this is some very significant news.  What does this mean to internet marketing? and Will we have to make added  effort in  diversifying our PPC accounts? More importantly, will we no longer only worry about how visible we are in the eyes of Google?
