Can Digg Help Toyota Do Some Damage Control?

Toyota has really had a fall from grace in recent weeks. The tremendously successful Japanese auto company has significant market share in the United States, previously with a flawless reputation for dependable cars. Companies like Toyota made buying Japanese cars a better choice than looking to our own American car companies. The torrent of car recalls, followed by weak executive statements has certainly put Toyota on the defensive; what steps can be taken to rebuild the reputation of this great car company.

Google’s Super Bowl Ad

Super Bowl XLIV (44) was apparently the most watched show in US television history with an estimated 106.5 million viewers according to Nielsen Co. Of course the winners in this situation are definitely the viewers, no matter which team you were rooting for, but the runner-up is probably the various companies hoping to pull in consumers with their advertising. This year there were creative, touching and odd advertisements from a wide range of companies: Doritos, Coca Cola, Budweiser, Bud Light, Snickers, Anheuser Busch, Dove for Men, Kia, Hyundai, Bridgestone, Focus on Family, Vizio, GoDaddy.com and more.

Google Buzz: Google Joins Social Media

According to The Wall Street Journal, Google’s email application, Gmail, will be releasing “… a new feature that makes it easier and faster for users of Gmail to view media and status updates shared by their friends.”

Gmail users currently have the ability to update their status, but it’s more of a signature type of status rather than a “what’s-happening” kind of status through the Gmail Chat feature; which, by-the-way I find to be a lot more useful than other instant messengers.

Apparently, this new feature will show a time-line of what others in your network are doing, similar to that found on Twitter and Facebook.

CBS Super Bowl Commercial Controversy

Hold on to your propaganda pamphlets, this post is going to be controversial! Trying to hold my tongue as much as possible (no pun intended), I’m going to give you the break down on the gay rights and anti-abortion commercial scandal surrounding CBS’s Super Bowl ads. We all know that buying ad space for the Super Bowl is big money. When CBS chooses to reject an ad from playing, that is big news.

The Pepsi Refresh Project

Pepsi Cola has been a long running staple in the Super Bowl commercial lineup. 23 years to be exact. But for the 2010 Super Bowl, Pepsi’s famous commercials were not shown. Pepsi Co Inc is a parent company to Frito Lay, which aired multiple Doritos commercials, but now the cola company is focusing on the Pepsi Refresh Project, an online cause marketing campaign that will fund grants for philanthropic efforts.

Why is Pepsi doing this? The conclusion is after many years of TV advertising campaigns, running an expensive commercial for the sake of entertainment is just not enough anymore. Even with Pepsi’s endorsement deals with major celebrities, Pepsi has never been able to pull itself in front of its rival, Coca Cola.

MySpace & the Grammys: “It all started with MySpace”?

The 2010 Grammy Awards was filled with wall to wall celebrities, spectacular performances, surprising appearances, shocking winners and most importantly marketing! There was the in-your-face outfit of Lady Gaga and the much anticipated performances by Beyonce, Drake, Green Day and Taylor Swift but, in between, were the extensive marketing efforts of the Grammy Awards.

Promotion is nothing new to the Grammy, I mean, they even had Steven Colbert do some product placement for the iPad, but the most prominent promotion to me had to be the efforts put on by our old, not-so-popular-anymore, friends at MySpace. They had a few plugs during the show, but most of their efforts seemed to focus on the red carpet interviews and where to find your favorite artist on the social networking website.

Dominos Pizza Makes an Honest Pie

Okay, so the internet is an ever expanding medium and the importance of internet marketing is growing by the day, but T.V. is still the king of the hill in consumer advertising. Has anyone caught the latest Domino’s commercial? Their new ad unveils a new marketing strategy that seems honest and refreshing.Domino’s pizza had a growing reputation for being easyon the wallet (i.e. their bailout campaign), but unfortunately, they were also known for having a bad tasting, acid inducing pizza. Well, great news! They “got the memo.”

Is Amazon Ready for the Apple iPad?

Days ago Apple unveiled the Apple iPad and in a prior post I mentioned how Apple’s partnerships with print media and textbook companies will peg the iPad as a possible threat to the Amazon’s Kindle.  Kindle is trying to think ahead, and Kindle enthusiasts say that the iPad will not be a direct threat.

Apple’s A4 Chip for iPad

There are mixed reviews about the release of the Apple iPad at this point, most referencing the horrible name that Apple opted to go with. Instead of focusing on this tablet that is definitely tailored to those with disposable money versus those looking for something with functionality, I will focus on one of the details that Apple hasn’t emphasized too much; the A4 chip within the iPad.

In the article Inside the iPad: Apple’s new ‘A4′ chip, written by CNET’s Brooke Crothers gives an excellent definition of what the A4 Chip is:
