Even within the small confines of Twitter (small in regards to characters per Tweet), content is King! You have 140 characters to promote your product or service to your target audience. Seems ridiculously difficult, but there are many people out there that have become professionals and get paid to do just this.
Twitter has become one of the world’s most popular social media sites. From politics to entertainment, product selling to daily chores, everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is being tweeted about. Although many people were trying to avoid jumping on this social media bandwagon, it is clear by the mass volume of people on the social network, that Twitter has become another revolutionary communication tool.
Many people are unaware of the many things you can do on Twitter. For instance, I recently found out that you can share files on Twitter via FileSocial and FileTwt. It’s fast, simple and with only 140 characters you can share files. This could be a great way to send out traditional press releases.
On #MusicMondays you can listen to your favorite songs on Songza and send out tweets to your followers from the same site. The same goes for images and videos with sites like Flickr and TwitVid. This has been a great tool to promote the music of many artists, and videos can be a great way to engage your target audience.
There are a multitude of things you can do on Twitter alongside your traditional Tweet. Research which tools and applications would be beneficial for you to use on Twitter with regards to the message you are trying to convey.
The main goal of your business on Twitter is to communicate to a large audience, but just because it is a social network doesn’t mean that your content should be any less precise and targeted. Hashtags are a great way to get a hold of your target audience. With tags like #SnowLeopard and #AT&T your target audience is pretty much saying “Here I am!” You can also do a twitter search on topics that relate to your business, and then start conversations to gain followers, which leads to ReTweets of the messages you send out.
Keep in mind the main purpose of Social Media is to communicate. It is not necessarily meant to be a way to sell a product, but it is a good way to promote your brand and create brand awareness across the large spectrum. Use your 140 characters to help, not mislead!
