Twitter Trending Topics Trendsetter: YouTube Trending Topics
YouTube has decided to incorporate trending topics into its user-friendly website. This seems like it could be a step in the right direction. Trending topics are one the many features that makes Twitter what it is today. You get to see what is on the minds of the masses! Current events usually top the trending topics and thus make it a great way to see what is happening around you.
YouTube does have many features that allow you to sort the popularity of posted videos, but the new trending topic feature gives you real-time results. Will this feature take YouTube to the next level? Hard to say, but it is definitely something to take notice of.
YouTube stated in a blog, “When there is a spike in searches on a given topic, we are beginning to tease that out on our browse pages to help you see what the world is watching on any given day. You might see the queries appear in a “Trending Topic” spotlight on that category’s browse page or at the bottom of the page. We’re testing how this performs and if it does well, we’ll find a permanent home for it on the browse page and potentially more broadly on YouTube.”
To me it’s a step above Twitter, because you no longer have to do the research on what a trending topic is about, you can just click and see what all the hoopla is about!
This is YouTube’s attempt to stay in stride with advances in social media has led to its current status as one of the biggest video sharing sites in the world.
YouTube is definitely a site that still has room to grow, despite how large it is. With its recent addition of HQ viewing, the company is definitely trying to keep our attention, since there are numerous sites vying for the same attention.
If YouTube stays on this progressive path of incorporating useful tools for users, there is no telling how big the company will grow.
