Under the Radar Digital Media Websites

Under the Radar Digital Media WebsitesMost internet users know exactly where to go to view videos, photos, and network, but with most traffic being hogged by websites like YouTube, Flickr and Twitter, are we really using the internet for all it’s worth?

The World Wide Web has a vast array of information for us to use to our advantage, and yet, most of us, me included, use the same websites everyday! Well it’s time to explore beyond our regular internet usage and find out what sites are just as, if not more, useful for what we are trying to get from the internet.

Blip.Tv and YouTube are two of the biggest video sharing websites, but have you ever visited VideoJug or TotLol?

Videojug has become one of the web’s most comprehensive libraries of free video content. The site has professionally-produced, high definition videos that cover just about any conceivable topic. They say it is “the definitive online ‘encyclopedia of life’.”

The video site has a variety of informative “How To” and “Ask the Expert” clips that guide you, step-by-step, through a number of queried topics.

TotLol is a video website designed with children in mind. Rhyme not intended, but that could be a good marketing angle. Powered by YouTube, the community site has videos submitted, screened and rated by parents.

With cameras everywhere, many of us are constantly uploading and sharing images  with our friends and family. We post them on the web for the world to see, except for those with privacy settings. Flickr is one of the top photo sharing sites, along with Photobucket, but what makes them so special? Probably the user-friendly interface, but in any case, many of us share our photos on the web with links, so why not explore other options?

Scrapblog is a creative photo sharing site with an easy to use drag-and-drop feature that allows just everyone that knows how to use the internet to create multimedia scrapbooks, and seeing as you made it to this wonderful blog, you are more than capable of using Scrapblog! “Our goal is to enable everyday people to express themselves online in a creative way,” says Scrapblog.

Another way we share photos and get connected is through social media. Twitter and Facebook have taken over the social media spectrum, but what happens if and when the novelty of these websites wears off?

Who needs to tweet when we can plurk? Plurk is a website that “allows you to showcase the events that make up your life in deliciously digestible chunks.”

There are many more sites that I can list for you, but what fun would that be? I challenge you to go and “surf” the web, which many have forgotten how to do, and find some interactive websites that interest you. Feel free to come back here and share them with us.
