Top Internet Topics of 2009
While “Twitter” was declared the most popular English word of 2009, Google Wave may have been 1st runner up. While many were asking “Where is my Google Wave Invite?” others sat around wondering how to use the communication tool that had “real-time” communication capabilities.
Twitter has a list of their top trending topics of 2009. Although I find them a bit off, in that True Blood is not a movie, but rather a television series; nevertheless, I will see it as valuable source of information of what the social media society finds to be important.
Of course Social Media, in and of itself, was a huge hit this year with Facebook being the social site with most users and Twitter being the social site with the most growth and YouTube maintaining its number one spot in regards to biggest video sharing website. There are some predictions as to the growth of these sites, but I personally think we need to keep an eye out for Four Square!
Being a search engine marketing company, we pay a big deal of attention to highly searched topics. Quite a few people have written posts on the top searched terms this year. I’ll break them down for you:
Michael Jackson, also known as the “King of Pop” was the most searched topic of 2009. Anything and everything surrounding his life and death has been searched for. The documentary, “This Is It,” filmed on his final tour was a hit in the box office and his long list of chart topping songs were among the top downloads of 2009!
To round off my list of the top things of 2009, I leave you with these resources of other things that relate to looking back at the year, 2009!
