Top Internet Topics of 2009

Top Internet Topics of 2009The year 2009 has been one of the biggest years in my lifetime. I’ve graduated, started my first full-time job, and I have learned so much about myself within this year alone! But, this blog post isn’t about me! It’s about the year. Let’s take a moment and look back at this spectacular year.

While “Twitter” was declared the most popular English word of 2009, Google Wave may have been 1st runner up. While many were asking “Where is my Google Wave Invite?” others sat around wondering how to use the communication tool that had “real-time” communication capabilities.

Twitter has a list of their top trending topics of 2009. Although I find them a bit  off, in that True Blood is not a movie, but rather a television series; nevertheless, I will see it as valuable source of information of what the social media society finds to be important.

Of course Social Media, in and of itself, was a huge hit this year with Facebook being the social site with most users and Twitter being the social site with the most growth and YouTube maintaining its number one spot in regards to biggest video sharing website. There are some predictions as to the growth of these sites, but I personally think we need to keep an eye out for Four Square!

Being a search engine marketing company, we pay a big deal of attention to highly searched topics. Quite a few people have written posts on the top searched terms this year. I’ll break them down for you:
