Many business owners have an understanding that marketing is a cost they have to budget for no matter how minimal or simplistic the efforts will be. After all, what is the point of having a great product or service that no one knows about? While traditional marketing like media and print are effective, online marketing and Search Engine Optimization continue to grow in significance and value as online business continues to grow by any measurement criteria you choose. Even with proof that web marketing is highly effective, some business owners are still hesitant to put their marketing dollars into SEO (search engine optimization) services.
In today's online marketplace, there are many people trying to "compete on analytics" to boost sales, drive online traffic, and increase brand loyalty. There are many books, videos and classes that offer extensive information. There is even a Dummies guide to analytics. Business Intelligence is the practical use for analytics.
If Microsoft has walked away from Yahoo for good, and I think they should, it will be a blessing. Over 40 billion dollars for a name brand is what it amounts to. Yahoo had the world by the tail at the beginning of the decade. The clear leader in all things internet and they just plain blew it! What can be a better testament to inept, egocentric and out-of-touch management than Jerry Yang’s playing hardball with Microsoft without an ounce of justification; he just gave away as much as 50% of the value of the deal for no reason that anyone can muster. In fact, his actions over the past 3 months are downright irresponsible as he actually and willfully destroyed share holder value with the sole objective of thwarting Microsoft’s takeover.
While the media, traditional and online, provides its daily drumbeat of negative economic and financial woes, there seems to be precious little discussion of what the hard facts really are in the US Economy and the global economy.
