Balloon Boy Publicity Stunt
Due to the heavy increase in competition over the years, marketers, advertisers and PR practitioners have begun to use drastic measures to set themselves apart and gain attention. The problem is many of the techniques used are extreme and often offensive and distasteful. Has marketing become so difficult that people have to resort to extreme cries for attention to sell a product or service?

Photoshop Use in Advertising
It’s very rare to see a printed advertisement anywhere in the US that does not contain individuals that have been digitally altered through Photoshop or another photo editing software. Playboy, the legendary American men’s publication claims they are one of the only publication that does not use “airbrushing” in their photography.

Conan O’Brien is Googling with the Stars
I’m thrilled that Conan O’Brien is the new Tonight Show host. He really induces the much needed LOL’s after a long day. Last night as I faithfully tuned in to NBC to catch his show, I noticed for the second night in a row that Bing is one of the show’s sponsors running at least one commercial during each commercial break. As I began to write that observation down in my notepad, the show comes back on and Conan introduces a segment called “Googling with the Stars”. This blew me away; this is a huge and significant product placement advertisement for Google.

Trending Topics on Twitter
This is a list of recent trending topics on Twitter. Ever wonder why they are number one? To be honest I don’t think I ever participated in one nor have I bothered to click on one. I decided to research the topics by visiting each “forum” and see what people are talking about and why.

How to Use #Trending Topics for Marketing
Twitter’s trending topics are the top ten keywords that are being tweeted at that time. Recently MJ has been a leading trending topic. The trending topics range from anything that has been in current events such as #iranelections, to #hashtag keywords that people create to start a twitter-wide conversation with topics such as #truth or #lies. Not all trending topics are #hastags, for example, the few non #hashtag trending topics right now are Chuck Norris, Michael Jackson, Harry Potter, Pirates, Sotomayor, and Bruno. Side Note: Hashtags are tags preceded by the “#” symbol and are generally used by Tweeps who wish to follow what is being said about a particular subject whether or not you are actually following the Tweeps.
