Google Local Search and How It Affects Small Businesses

You have probably noticed the fact that most searched now bring up local business results on Google SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) even if you do not put the location in the search query. Now, if you are asking the question, "Why are the local results showing up if I did not search for anything local?" you are asking the wrong question. The right question would be; "Why do I not show up in that list?"

Was Google Down or Hacked Yesterday?

When I tried to access Google yesterday at about 10:30 AM EST in Miami FL, it loaded very slowly and none of the links were functioning. I experienced the same slowness on Gmail and Adwords. I have been using Google since 2001 and this is the first time this has happened.

This is one of the few events where SEM Companies, Agents and Independent Websites can gain knowledge and the most recent Industry News on all aspects of SEM including SEO, PPC, Social Media and Social Book marking. Industry giants such as Google, Yahoo, MSN and many other companies show up with speakers, and also to promote their presence.
